Privacy Policy
This website is published by Shelfless on behalf of the author Harvey Walsh. This policy explains what information is processed when you visit it or join the mailing list, and why.
The short version
The only personal information this site asks for is your email address, and only if you choose to get the free book Day Trading Secrets. We use it to send you the book and Harvey’s occasional emails, nothing else, and you can unsubscribe at any time. The site does not use advertising, does not set tracking cookies, and does not try to identify you.
Who is responsible for your information
Shelfless is responsible for this website and the mailing list. If you have any questions about this policy or about your information, email info@shelfless.co.uk.
The free book and mailing list
When you request the free book, we collect:
- your email address
- the date and time you signed up and confirmed your address
- the IP address you signed up from and the page you signed up on, kept as a record of your consent
The list uses double opt-in. After you submit the form, we send one email asking you to confirm your address. You are added to the list only when you click the link in that email, so nobody can sign you up without your knowledge. If you don’t confirm, you won’t receive any further emails.
Once you’ve confirmed, Harvey will email you the free book, plus occasional freebies, trading information and news about his books. The legal basis is your consent. You can withdraw it at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email, or by emailing us. We keep your details for as long as you stay subscribed. When you unsubscribe, we keep only a record that you unsubscribed, so that you are not emailed again.
The mailing list runs on Sendy, software hosted by Shelfless. Emails are delivered through Amazon Simple Email Service (Amazon Web Services), which processes your email address only to deliver our messages. Our emails may record whether they were opened and which links were clicked, so we can tell which emails readers find useful. We never sell, rent or share your email address with anyone else.
Spam protection on the signup form
To stop automated programs from abusing the signup form, it is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile. When a page with the form loads, Turnstile runs a short check in your browser, usually without you needing to do anything. To do this, Cloudflare processes technical signals such as your IP address, your browser’s user agent and characteristics of its connection. These are used only to tell people from bots and to improve Cloudflare’s bot detection, not to identify, profile or target you, and not for advertising. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the mailing list free of fake and malicious signups. You can read more in Cloudflare’s Turnstile privacy addendum.
The signup form also limits how often it can be used from the same IP address, so that it can’t be flooded with requests. Those IP addresses are held only briefly for that purpose.
Information processed when you visit
The site is hosted and delivered by Cloudflare. Like any web server, Cloudflare processes technical information about each request so it can send you the page and protect the site from abuse: your IP address, the page requested, the time, your browser’s user agent and the referring page. This information is used only to run and secure the site. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing a working, secure website.
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they read. It does not use cookies or local storage and does not fingerprint visitors. We only see aggregated figures, such as page views and countries, and never information that identifies you.
Fonts and images are served from this website itself. Apart from the Turnstile check on pages with the signup form, the site does not load content from Google or any other third party while you browse it.
If you email us
If you email Harvey or Shelfless, we use your email address and message only to reply to you. We keep the correspondence for as long as it’s needed for that conversation, and we never add you to the mailing list or share your details because you emailed us.
Links to bookshops
Book pages link to online bookshops and audiobook services such as Amazon, Audible, Apple Books, Kobo and Google Play. When you follow one of those links you leave this site, and that retailer’s own privacy policy applies. Some of these links are affiliate links. If you buy something after following one, the retailer may pay a small commission, at no extra cost to you. To do this, the retailer may record that you arrived from this site.
Where your information is processed
Cloudflare and Amazon Web Services may process information on servers outside the UK and European Economic Area. Where they do, they rely on recognised safeguards such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.
Children
This site is about trading and is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has joined the mailing list, email us and we will remove them.
Your rights
Under data protection law you have the right to ask for a copy of any personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct or delete it, or to stop using it. Email info@shelfless.co.uk to make a request. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority, such as the Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK or the CNIL in France.
Cookies
This site does not set cookies of its own. See the cookie policy for details.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update it on this page and change the date below. If a change affects how we use your email address, we will tell subscribers by email before it takes effect.
